What is GENESIS

GENESIS is a collaborative effort between The University of Western Australia's School of Electrical, Electronic and Computer Engineering and secondary schools. It has been developed to assist schools to build advanced technology-based projects that have a practical use within school.

GENESIS consists of a series of projects (see below). Teaching resources such as engineering drawings, electronic circuits, construction notes, theory notes and software are available free from this web site upon registration. Schools can either use the teaching resources as they are or make any design changes that they wish. The safety net for teachers in that the published designs are known to work and are supported at University level.

The GENESIS programme aims to:

  • increase communication between schools, tertiary institutions and industry;
  • assist schools to become more technologically focused;
  • use multi-disciplinary projects to highlight the importance of technology and science;
  • provide real engineering problems for students to consider;
  • encourage team work and communication through the construction of team projects;
  • develop within students a feeling of achievement and ownership of the school and its property;
  • motivate students to consider engineering as a future vocation and profession.

Projects

GENESIS currently consists of the following projects:
  • Scale (An electronic scale with LCD)
  • Senso (A music game)
  • Musical Die (An electronic die)

These projects are based on the PICAXE microcontroller. For more information please consult PICAXE.
